Our Story

Berglund Construction is a fourth-generation, family-owned and operated construction and building restoration firm. We draw from over a century of expertise to deliver projects for clients with highly technical requirements.

In 1907, a 16-year-old named Fred Berglund left Sweden with pennies in his pocket to work with his uncle as a blacksmith in Chicago. One day he caught his uncle cheating him out of pay by turning the shop clock back. A man of integrity, Fred got angry at the swindler and quit. Fred used this as an opportunity to revinent himself yet again. He learned about brick masonry cleaning and repair, then decided at age 20 to open his own business. In 1911, Fred founded the company that has evolved into Berglund Construction.

More than a century later, the company that began with a young Swedish immigrant lugging his ladder, bucket and tools onto Chicago’s 4 a.m. street car has evolved into a nationally recognized construction management and building restoration firm. The entrepreneurial spirit and deep sense of integrity that led to Berglund Construction’s founding at the turn of the 20th century continue to serve as guideposts for our growing, family-led company today.
