Scope Of Work
The Philadelphia Youth Center is a 150,000 square foot Juvenile Justice Services Center provides a range of services for teens and young adults. Its main function is to provide a short-term residential detention facility that offers social and educational programs. The building is divided into living, learning, dining, recreation, counseling, judicial and administrative areas, including a 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art medical and dental suite.
Located at 91 N. 48th Street in West Philadelphia, the project was carefully composed on a busy urban intersection to create a serene internal campus environment. The facility contains interior courtyards for outdoor recreation and intimate meditation gardens.
The facility has 10 classrooms, a gymnasium, a health clinic, outdoor recreation spaces and a garden for residents. The project served as a pilot site for a city-wide effort to specifically afford women and minority contractors opportunities on public projects. This project was awarded a LEED Silver certification by the USGBC.
