Scope Of Work
This project included construction of a 260-space open air parking structure. The four-level deck was designed to blend with the surrounding historic downtown structures by incorporating architectural characteristics from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The precast structure is completely veneered with brick and accent cornices, features bronze faux windows, an aluminum storefront, and architectural canopies with decorative rosettes and escutcheons. The project also included an 800 SF build-out to serve as a police precinct for public safety officers and a complete parking lot fit and redesign for the adjacent Alpharetta Animal Hospital.
Due to existing foundations and structures, the early site borings showed that the site had very unsuitable soils, which required deep foundations. Using aggregate piers rather than traditional helical or micro pile foundations, the project team was able to provide savings to the owner and sufficiently support the foundations.
As 2018 was recorded to have the second most rainful in Georgia’s history, the project team was challenged to maintain the project schedule as weather caused setbacks. This created substantial delays for the project right off the bat, so the team re-phased the work and came up with new, creative ways on a weekly basis to keep the schedule moving forward and ensure that the completion date would remain in tact.
