Our Story

METRO EARTHWORKS (Metro) was established in 1999 as a division of Shirley Contracting Company LLC, one of the largest heavy/highway contractors in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Metro is well known as a multi-faceted excavation contractor. With its Headquarters located in Northern Virginia, Metro offers a full range of services including: excavation, site development, demolition, rental equipment provider for heavy excavation and dumps, underground utilities work, grading and erosion control, delivery & disposal of fill material. With its maintenance shop located in suburban Maryland, Metro traditionally performs work in Mid-Atlantic Region, primarily the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. Metro's talented workforce and extensive fleet of equipment enables us to provide a broad scope of services to a variety of clients in both the public and private markets. Metro considers itself a true service organization, and prides itself on owner satisfaction, teamwork and creativity.

METRO EARTHWORKS performs foundation excavations, total site development including, demolition, clearing, earthwork, utilities and site grading as well as specialty services such as footing excavation, equipment rental and material brokerage.

We pride ourselves on our diverse background and experience. Whether the project is large or small, difficult or routine, we have a deeper grasp that enables METRO EARTHWORKS to satisfactorily complete all tasks and identify potential problems before they impact the project. We can provide strong leadership, a knowledgeable workforce and unmatched determination to help our clients produce an end product second to none.

Our Team of experienced project managers, estimators, and field employees are located in our Northern Virginia office. Our management team has a diverse background bringing knowledge and experience to all areas of earthwork and site development. Our ability to build trusting relationships and unmatched construction services provide for the future growth of our company. Our field crews make earth move. Our crews have a large fleet of equipment resources and the know how to get projects completed on time and within budget. Our communication between projects, our corporate office, and our clients allow us to adapt and change to different site requirements, locations, and schedules.
