Scope Of Work
Working with TLC Engineering for Architecture and Freck Enterprises, C & D Construction completed this Design-Build project in December, 2014. This storm surge protection project consisted of a 2200 lineal-foot seawall along the edge of the Indian River to protect FP&L’s new $1.2 billion power plant.
The construction consisted of 35’ long AZ sheet piles with a metal cap being vibrated into place using a conventional ICE Hammer on leads in the areas where an overhead crane could be utilized. Areas under high-voltage transmission lines necessitated the sheets being vibrated in using a German track-mounted hammer that was designed to be used with low overhead clearance. Seven hundred cubic yards of concrete slabs-on-grade and wall caps were poured to reinforce the shoreline and protect the hurricane shelter on site from wave action.
