Case Construction Co.

In 1907 Frank N Gustafson immigrated to the United States from his homeland of Sweden. After passing through Ellis Island, he worked his way through Connecticut as a farmhand and handyman. A carpenter by trade, Frank eventually settled in Providence in 1911 and got a job with a local building contractor. After only five years working for the company as a carpenter and foreman, the owner retired to Arizona for health reasons and left the company to Frank. Frank eventually renamed the company Frank N Gustafson & Sons Inc. and developed a local following in Providence renovating and building private homes, primarily on the East Side.

When Frank’s three sons returned home from WWII the company moved from its small location on Brook St to a larger facility on Pitman St. As the brothers took control of the company, they expanded into commercial contracting. The company thrived over the next three decades; building banks, renovating and building hospitals and office spaces, along with manufacturing plants and New England Telephone facilities through out Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts.

In 1984, Frank N Gustafson II started Case Construction to concentrate on interior renovation and tenant build out work. In 1987, both firms moved to their current location on Wampanoag Trail in East Providence. The last of the three sons, Clifford, retired in 1992, leaving Frank in control of both companies. In 2004, Frank was joined by his son, Kurt, making him the fourth generation in the family business.

Experience

Our 100 years in operation makes the Gustafson family the second oldest general construction company in continuous operation in Rhode Island. With that longevity has come unmatchable experience in all types of construction. From modest dwellings in the early years, we now have recently built large custom homes as well as an eleven unit affordable housing development; while building in every type of wood framing in between. In the past 50 years, we have also erected pre-engineered buildings and large structural steel frames, as well as poured in place concrete and masonry block structures. We have also completed many historical renovations and mill conversions in Rhode Island. Over the last 25 years we have also compiled an impressive list of interior tenant work through out the Greater Providence area.

Our role with in all of these projects also varies to fit our client needs. From budgets for potential upgrades, to design builds and construction management, we are a general contractor who can see a client through the building process from start to finish. In nearly a century, Case Construction has developed and maintained countless relationships with repeat clients, engineers, and architects, which has earned us our reputation of honest quality building.

Case Construction is also a proud member of the ABC and it’s Carpentry Apprenticeship program. Case’s continued excellence in the field has also earned an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.

Versatility

Through our many years of experience, Case Construction has adapted to handle a wide range of projects in both size and difficulty. But what sets us apart from our competitors is our ability to self perform much of the general construction with our own personnel. This includes demolition, site work, concrete, masonry, wood and metal framing, drywall and taping, acoustical ceilings, as well as rough and finish carpentry. By not having to rely on subcontractors for these disciplines, we are better able to control quality, cost and schedule. Additionally, the versatility of our employees allows us to perform projects varying from renovating a single office, to rehabbing and converting an 80,000 square foot mill into apartments, to building a yacht club 100 feet out into the bay.
