Dean Schroeder's Bio
Dean Schroeder has been employed in the construction industry since 1986. His experience includes the construction of over 5,500 new apartment units, the rehabilitation of nearly 1,150 apartment units, 126,000 square feet of commercial retail space as well as above and below grade parking structures with some as much as seven stories.
In 1998 Dean joined Lockwood Construction as Project Manager and in 2000 was promoted to Senior Project Manager, overseeing the work of multiple Project Managers. In 2001 he advanced to the position of Assistant Vice President of Field Operations overseeing construction operations on several projects, estimating, purchasing, scheduling, budget compliance, progress reporting and certifying project completion.
In 2006 Dean advanced to the position of Vice President of Construction Operations. He managed the production division of the company with responsibilities at every step of the process from initial project inception and preliminary estimates to project completion.
When Lockwood ceased construction operations in 2008, Dean left for CANV Construction, an affiliate of Fore Property as Vice President of Construction. Out of their Washington, D.C. office he was responsible for their construction efforts nationally. Project locations consisted of Florida, Texas, Colorado, Indiana, and Maryland. During his tenure with CANV he managed multiple diverse teams constructing luxury market-rate apartments.
In 2013 Dean joined Mill Creek Residential Trust as Senior Project Manager, a step back in title with a giant leap forward in managing the construction of complex, mixed use, high-quality apartment communities. During his tenure with Mill Creek he oversaw the construction efforts of Modera Mosaic Phase I and II Fairfax, Virginia from pre-construction thru project delivery.
Dean recently rejoined Lockwood Companies as Director of Construction. As head of construction he will set the processes and standards to manage the Construction Team(s) to provide a quality product efficiently, safely and professionally; within set budgets and agreed timescales, ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
Dean has a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Ferris State University and an Associate of Science degree in Building Construction Technology, also from Ferris State University.
Denise Lanfear's Bio
Denise Lanfear has over 20 years of experience in Human Resources. As an HR leader, she has spent time in a variety of industries including: manufacturing, advertising, financial services and housing industries. She has the ability to quickly analyze a situation and develop effective solutions.
Denise’s career path has tracked through various companies, where she became proficient at designing policy and procedures, launching employee engagement models and implementing organizational development techniques within both legacy employers and fast-growing business environments. Her professional leadership has contributed to improvements in stakeholder’s operational effectiveness and profitability.
Denise is a special instructor at Oakland University, teaching various courses in Business and Human Resources Management at the Graduate and Undergraduate levels. Denise has very strong competencies across the entire Strategic HR vertical – employee relations, mentoring, recruiting, employee benefit administration, process assessment, compensation modeling and training. Denise is well-seasoned in labor compliance and guidance. Additionally, she is effective at raising foundational HR infrastructures for start-ups and growth-mode businesses when partnering with progressive management teams. Her solutions-leadership around HRIS, FMLA, HIPPA, Applicant Tracking and EEOC related matters has proven beneficial to her internal stakeholders and clients.
Mark Lockwood's Bio
Mark Lockwood joined the Lockwood Companies in 2011 after working in the multifamily division of a national real estate brokerage firm. He also worked for City Year Detroit, a non-profit organization as volunteer outreach coordinator and a corporate sponsor public relations ambassador.
Mark has been intimately involved in the financial analysis of the company portfolio, processing acquisition opportunities, and leading development opportunities in his previous role as Vice President of Development. He has experience in processing and closing loans for the HUD 223(f) program and HUD Transfer of Physical Assets process, acquiring affordable and market-rate apartment properties, condominium properties and low-income tax credit and tax-exempt bond financed apartment complexes. Mark has been directly responsible for over $100 million in acquisitions and developments in his time with the company.
Mark currently sits on the board of directors for the Michigan Housing Council. He is a graduate of Albion College, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Management and is also a licensed real estate salesperson in the State of Michigan.
Matt Gatewood's Bio
Matt Gatewood has over 25 years of experience in operations, management, purchasing, and new business development with extensive knowledge of on-site operations, development, and construction. Specializing in operations, multi-family property management, and senior living development, he is responsible for leadership, management, and oversight of community operations as well as financial performance of all assets in the portfolio. Matt implements plans and strategies for enhancing value and improving financial returns for owners and investors.
Matt’s past experience includes regional management and senior living development roles with a prominent multi-family and senior living developer, a senior living development and programming role with a well-known real estate consulting firm, and operations vice president and property management director roles with Metro Detroit-based multifamily management organizations. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Management from Albion College.
Michael McMillan's Bio
Michael McMillan has over 12 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant and extensive public experience with concentrations in the areas of audit, tax preparation and internal control. Over seven of those years have been spent in the multifamily real estate sector with the Lockwood Companies.
Michael’s core foci at Lockwood are to oversee the accurate preparation, review, and timely distribution of financial reporting for both internal and external stakeholders. He has oversight of all of Lockwood Companies internal controls, treasury management and tax planning.
Michael is also responsible for various aspects of community development and financing. He is responsible for forecasting and modeling for acquisitions and developments, as well being the point person regarding development draws and cost certifications.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan as well as a Masters of Science in Accounting from Wayne State University
Steve Gabrys's Bio
Steve Gabrys has over 20 years of real estate experience developing multifamily and mixed use projects. Since 2005, he has specialized in affordable housing development successfully developing and overseeing construction of over 1200 housing units and related commercial space. Throughout his career Steve has acted in capacity as a developer, acquisition specialist and owner representative for construction with a priority towards creating value through creative solutions to real estate projects.
Steve has an undergraduate degree from Marquette University and a Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University. He holds a CCIM Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation, is a licensed member of the Michigan Bar, and has been a speaker for the Michigan Affordable Housing Conference, Neighborworks America and other real estate forums.
