John Piazza Jr's Bio
I have been in construction pretty much my whole life. My father started John Piazza Jr. Construction in 1973 when I was just 3 yrs old. We lived in Everett, Washington at the time but did a lot of construction in the Skagit Valley. We moved to Burlington in 1976 and have been in the Valley ever since. Since 1973 we have built over 350 homes, 15 office buildings, 4 medical centers, 10 apartment buildings (total of over 500 units), 3 retirement centers and 1 mini storage complex (800+ units). We have also developed 4 properties equaling over 200 lots. John Piazza Jr. Construction has won numerous awards for construction excellence including 2 Builder of the Year Awards for the State of Washington.
I started full time with the family business in 1989 when I graduated from Burlington High School. I started at the bottom as a laborer and worked my way up. I have done just about every phase of construction there is (some better than others). In 2001 I took over the company as the President just as I finished my 3rd retirement center (101,000 sq ft 10 million dollar project) that I ran from start to finish.
As president I returned to our grass roots of upper end custom homes. In 2002 I discovered the need for a quality remodeler in the Skagit County and surrounding areas. I responded by starting our own remodel division and it has been greatly accepted. Since then we have satisfied over 230 clients; several have done multiple projects with us. I am also starting to look into land development more seriously and we are getting back into more commercial work again.
I have been happily married to my wife Kim since 1995 and we have 2 wonderful children, son Jordan and daughter Lauren. In 2011 my wife and I started John Piazza Jr. Construction and Remodeling, Inc. Kim is the bookkeeper and office manager.
My wife and I believe in giving back to the community. We are both members of the Burlington Mid-Day Rotary Club and past coaches for the Special Olympics program. Kim is a member of the Vala Yougquist Seattle Children’s Hospital Guild, Skagit Valley Hospital Festival of Trees Committee, and the Bay View School board.

Mike Yarrow's Bio
My construction experience started before I was out of High School. I always knew that I wanted to get into the construction business. After doing many different types of handyman service, I joined the Marine Corps in 1979. I went to Okinawa Japan, mainland Japan, and South Korea. I received an Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant in 1983. The Military was a good experience but after 4 years of people yelling at me, I was ready to get out.
I went to college in Portland, and met my bride-to-be. While attending college, I did hot tar roofing, painting, and did some volunteer construction projects.
I have been very happily married to my wife Jean for over 20 years; we have two great boys, Kevin & Jason, who are actively involved in swimming on the YMCA Chinook swim team. I spend my Saturdays taking them to swim meets, and cheering them on. As a family, we attend church regularly.
I worked for a local Mount Vernon construction company, Reinecke Custom Homes, for seven years doing homes from start to finish. Starting as a laborer, I then worked my way up to the lead carpenter position running the crews.
I have built and designed 3 homes for myself, and in 2006 we built our dream home.
From 1997 to 2007 I owned my own business, Mike Yarrow Fine Homes. With the help of 15 employees, I framed more than 300 homes in Mount Vernon and surrounding areas, as well as several homes from start to finish. I closed my doors due to a back injury.
I had framed several houses and done some remodels and additions for John Piazza Jr. Construction, so when I heard that John Piazza Jr. Construction was looking for someone to head up their Remodel Division I gave them a call. As a sub-contractor they treated me well, they had a good reputation in the community, and I wanted to work for them.
I am a CAPS (Certified Age in Place Specialist); I help people make decisions about how to modify their home do to illness or injury, so that they can stay in their existing home. I have helped my family members with severe disabilities for more than 25 years and understand the challenges that arise.
It is a rewarding challenge, from concept to the finished project, helping people remodel their homes and make them more livable.
