Rick grew up in Charlotte and attended East Mecklenburg High School. He attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and in 1993 earned a B.A. in English. He moved to Wilmington, N.C. and opened an apparel and gift store. Ten years later, Rick chose to return to his hometown and learn all the aspects of commercial construction.
His initial construction experience was gained by working with the Company’s superintendents on commercial developments such as Waterside Crossing office complex in Denver, NC and Shemin Nursery in Cornelius, NC.
By working on the construction site, Rick was able to gain an acute understanding of how buildings are physically built. Rick’s work in the field exposed him to the complex relationships between the developer, project manager, and superintendent. Also, he worked extensively with a variety of sub contractors such as masons, electricians, landscapers, etc. As a project manager, Rick has the ability to process information in building plans and produce an accurate estimate of the costs involved in commercial construction. He is currently developing the skills necessary to manage a project from ground breaking to certificate of occupation.
Rick has two children, Jonas and Gabrielle.
