Scope Of Work

 

Fluor-Lane South Carolina, comprised of Fluor and The Lane Construction Corporation, was selected by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) to design and build the Port Access Road Project in Charleston. The Port of Charleston is currently the fastest growing major container port in the U.S. The new roadway and structure project will provide direct access between the proposed marine container terminal located on the former Naval Base and Interstate 26 (I-26).

Client's Challenge

The SCDOT's project scope includes local roadway enhancements to safely integrate container terminal traffic with existing traffic; support local and regional planning policies and strategies; and minimize adverse impacts on nearby communities, the traveling public and the environment.

The project construction will be near live I-26 traffic, over active CSX and Norfolk Southern Rail lines and involves work in environmental cleanup areas of former industrial sites.

Fluor's Solution

Fluor-Lane South Carolina's portion of the work includes a new fully directional interchange on I-26, Bainbridge Connector Road, the extension of Stromboli Avenue and associated roadway improvements to surface streets to serve the proposed Naval Base Terminal.

Led by the Greenville Fluor office, the self-perform design-build project will utilize an integrated solutions approach, working with Craft Services, AMECO, Commercial Strategies, Supply Chain and support from TRS.

Modular construction will be used for precast components of the project, such as bridge beams, retaining walls, sound walls and draining structures. These items will be fabricated offsite to maintain quality and safety.

The joint venture team will employ approximately 200 craft and professional workers during peak construction, slated for 2018.
