This complex project, the Cemetery's first new building in seventy years, was completed under budget. It involved new construction of a 9,000 square foot mixed-use building in an active, historic cemetery. It also involved incorporating a 19th century wall into the new building and maintaining the exact footprint of the original structure at that location. The Preservation Services Building provides office and meeting space for the Cemetery staff, a workshop area for maintenance and repair of monuments and headstones, a large basement for storage and a two-bedroom residential apartment that can be rented to generate income or house a caretaker. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines, efficiency studies, and building and energy cost-benefit analyses ensured that the most innovative materials and products were chosen.

The Associated General Contractors Build New England Award was given to this project in recognition of the outstanding building team who worked together to enhance the owner's investment in the project while underscoring excellence in project management and client service, construction innovation, and contributions to the community.
