Scope Of Work
The positive effect of collaboration between multiple disciplines was central in our creative design of the $24M Center, a new home for the biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, general science and mathematics departments. The 75,000 SF building addresses other key attributes important to science education including hands on learning, visibility, adaptability, and interdisciplinary teaching and learning. Formal learning environments include 20 teaching laboratories, 7 research laboratories, and 8 lab lecture/classrooms with modern technology.
The building is registered for LEED Silver certification. Features include building siting, integrated sun shades, two green roof gardens, and several building systems. The mechanical systems incorporate sophisticated strategies such as variable air volume and heat recovery. The design embraces concepts promoted by Labs of the 21st Century, among them low pressure drop air transport systems, right sized systems, and air reuse.
Our design calls for occupancy sensors in all spaces to control lighting and temperature when the spaces are unoccupied. High efficiency light fixtures and lamps are also provided.
