When I was in high school, I started by working for a carpenter after
school and on weekends. Then during my junior year of college, I had
an opportunity to work with a guy that owned his own business. So I
jumped on board with him and moved up in management over the years and
ended up running the residential side of the business.
It was really at that point in my life that I felt I was ready to go
out on my own and start a business myself. I felt that I could do it
better than other companies around at the time. We grew from a small
two-man shop to a well-established company. This is now our 30th year
in business.
We were banging around a bunch of ideas for a cool name and I wanted
to come up with something that designated quality. At first, I was
thinking of “level,” focusing on how when you measure something you
want it done right, and you want it done well, and by using a level
you help to ensure that. Somebody suggested we use “plumbline” –
which is basically level but vertically instead of horizontally – and
it just kind of stuck: “Plumbline Builders”.
