Scope Of Work
Gettysburg National Military Park was designated as a National Park in 1895 and encompasses most of the Gettysburg Battlefield, many of the battle’s support areas, and several other non-battle areas associated with the battle.
Due to higher use by pedestrians enjoying the park and various walking trails, a new pedestrian trail is urgently needed to keep the foot traffic off of Taneytown Road, a narrow and busy road with no shoulders and no sidewalks. With the 150th anniversary approaching, the need for a safer pedestrian pathway has never been greater.
The Road Safety Improvements project includes the design and construction of a new path along Taneytown Road. The scope of work includes the removal of vegetation, the construction of a new 10’ wide asphalt path, ADA crosswalks, prefabricated bridges, and placing topsoil and seed. The goal for this project is to create a safer trail for the millions of visitors to this historic place.
