Acadia National Park - Pavement Improvments

Project Information

Project Location:
Hancock County, ME
Status:
Completed
Structure Type:
Park / Playground

Scope Of Work

Acadia National Park is situated on the scenic coastline of Maine and encompasses approximately 47,748 acres in various locations.  Most of the park is located on Mount Desert Island, but continues to the northeast on the Schoodic Peninsula, as well in the southwest on Isle Au Haut, which is only accessible by boat.  The park was founded in 1916 with the help from private citizens donating land to prevent over-development. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. played a critical role, as well, by constructing carriage paths, many of which are still in use today, throughout the park. In 1929, it was officially named Acadia National Park.

The Pavement Improvements project at Acadia National Park consists of rehabilitating the roadways throughout the park that millions of tourists travel on during the year. The scope includes the roadways within Acadia National Park in the areas of the Jordan Pond Road, the Park Loop Road, the Schoodic Loop Road, and the Schoodic Point Road.

Classic will be placing an ultra thin overlay on the pavement throughout the park, milling and overlaying portions of the roads, performing spot repairs on problematic areas, and applying new pavement markings. Our goal is to preserve the pristine roadways for the public for many years to come.
