Lumber One

Barb started working part time at Lumber One, Avon in 1979 while still in high school. She joined the company full time in 1985 after graduating with a Business Management – Accounting degree from the University of St Thomas. She held various titles before being named CEO in 2001. Today she along with her sibling, Ted Schmid, run Lumber One and various associated businesses. Barb is actively involved in multifamily development and has coordinated the construction of over 5,000 housing units.

Ted is the Chief Operating Officer of the Lumber One Avon and the Chief Manager of Lumber One Development Company. He has over twenty years of experience in new single family custom homes, production homes, and multifamily housing construction in the Midwest. Ted has helped develop and rezone agriculture property to single-family, multi-family, and PUD properties including the negotiation of tax increment financing. When not working, Ted can be found at the Veladrome on his bicycle, hunting birds with his friends and son, and hanging out at the lake.

Chad joined Lumber One Avon in the spring of 2004 and brings years of experience in community development, planning, and management. As the Office Manager, Chad is the Human Resources Manager, Safety Manager and manages all of Lumber One’s numerous development projects and our neighborhoods. When not in the office or at job site, Chad enjoys fishing, hunting, golf, and spending time with his family.
