Our Story
Andrew L. Pettit Architect has been in the forefront of revitalization and rehabilitation of many inner city neighborhoods and has renovated, partially or wholly, over two hundred brownstone buildings. These attached four and five-story structures became the focal point of renewed interest in urban living. Their character induced a sizeable influx of young and middle class families back to the city from the late 60's to the present. These 'pioneers' are still coming, and as the brownstone stock becomes scarcer, new building types are coming under renovation.
The firm began working with developers and investors over thirty years ago in the recycling of warehouses, churches, hotels, police stations, firehouses, theaters, individual loft conversions and many other building prototypes into co-operatives, condominiums, and rental apartments.
The firm has restored landmark homes both in and outside the city, designed several office complexes and corporate interiors, and designed and built new apartment buildings in the Bronx and Manhattan.
The housing need stretched outward, and we have been responsible for the design and planning of a landmark conversion project of a commercial complex into co-operative lofts and townhouses on the Hoboken waterfront.
We have created several health clubs and spas, shops, restaurants, and an industrial building with a new event club at the upper level and roof. Our work is varied and multifaceted with experience in all areas and with all types of building programs.
The experience of Andrew L. Pettit Architect brings a varied and unique perspective to old problems and a fresh and confident approach to new ones.
