Joseph F .Appleton's Bio
On the day Joe Appleton began his freshman year at Auburn University, his goal was to become an architect. The day he changed his major to construction, however, is the one still etched so clearly in his mind.
“It was the summer following my freshman year, and I was working as a laborer on a commercial construction project. I noticed one of the general contractor’s project managers, dressed in a collared shirt and tie, walking toward the air-conditioned office trailer. ‘I’d like to be that guy,’ I thought to myself as I labored under the piercing sun.”
Since architecture courses had failed to pique his interest, Joe acted on his wish and switched his major to building science. He continued to work construction during summer breaks, and graduated three years later with a bachelor of science in building construction.

R. Randall Hall's Bio
Randy Hall is perhaps more passionate about Batson-Cook and commercial construction than he is about the Auburn University Tigers, which says a lot! He hails from the small town of Millbrook, Alabama, and became a die-hard Auburn fan the day he enrolled. His enthusiasm for all things construction developed later, but not by much.
Following high school, Randy enrolled in Auburn and set his sights on a degree in civil engineering because he excelled in mathematics. He was, however, paying his own way through college, so he participated in a cooperative education program which required alternating terms of full-time academics and full-time work. Randy’s first job assignment was with a large commercial construction company, where he developed an intense passion for that type of work. He graduated with the civil engineering degree he set out to pursue, but planted his career in construction and has never looked back.
Now, as president and CEO of Batson-Cook, Randy guides the company’s future by combining the tools of the construction craft he has honed for more than three decades with the relationships he developed during 15 years in management roles within the company. He carries ultimate responsibility for the firm’s strategic planning, business development, preconstruction services and construction operations.
Randy became the sixth president of Batson-Cook in January 2012, and was named CEO the following year. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president and general manager of both the West Point and Atlanta regional offices, positions he attained after rising through the ranks in assignments that afforded him a broad range of field and office experience.
