California Tile Installers
San Jose, California 95112
California Tile Installers was founded in 1962 by Donald K. O’Brien. In the past 50 years the business has grown and diversified. During the early years, the company focus was primarily in the residential market. Don O’Brien was an early pioneer of the cultured marble business and opened a manufacturing facility in the late 60’s producing vanity tops and tub surrounds. Due to changes in the market trend this facility has been closed, although some of Don’s designs are still on the market today.
1973 marked the opening of Tile Fantastic the first of two retail stores that Don O’Brien opened. This facility was sold in 1980 to its current owner. Tiles Galore was opened in 1986 and continued retail sales through 1993.
California Tile Installers incorporated in 1983 under the corporation name U.S. Perma, Inc. dba California Tile Installers.
Following in his fathers foot steps, upon completing college in 1980 Jack C. O’Brien worked for the company as a journeyman tile setter until 1985. At this time Jack was inducted as Vice President of U.S. Perma, Inc. dba California Tile Installers and took the position of Head Estimator for the company. During this same period of time the company changed its focus from primarily residential work to a predominately commercial market.
California Tile Installers expanded its working territory in 1992 to cover the west coast and held contractors licenses in California, Washington, Oregon and Arizona. Currently they have re-concentrated that territory to Northern California.
As a second generation owner to the family business, Jack C. O’Brien took over as President of U.S. Perma, Inc. dba California Tile Installers in 1992 and holds that title today. Jack oversees the daily operations and continues to do a substantial amount of estimating for the firm.
Jack’s son, Jordon O’Brien joining the company in 2011 represents the third generation of this family owned business. Jordon has a bright future with the company and is currently handling AR and estimating.
