What is oil spreading? Oil spreading, or seal coating, is a preventative based maintenance procedure that uses a liquid coal tar emulsion over existing asphalt. It is used to protect asphalt from environmental damages such as ultraviolet oxidization which can quickly break it down. Because it is much cheaper than removal and replacement, it is an excellent option to use if you want to greatly extend the life of your pavement.
