My sisters and I are restoring an 1884 Queen Ann Victorian located in a city on the Hudson River in Westchester, New York.
For the first ten years of living in our home we were forced to concentrate on mundane home repairs and replacements of a new roof, a new front porch, a new sump pump for a wet basement and a new water heater.
In August 2008, we were finally able to pick colors to paint the exterior of our home. We knew when it came time to restore our home; painting would be our only option. Keeping the authentic, distinctive qualities of our home was important to us. Picking a painter for our home was not easy. We interviewed more than eight candidates for the job.
We choose Peter Loconte of P&M Quality Painting located in Hawthorne, New York. During his interview, Peter walked around the exterior of our home and not only pointed out the repairs needed but told us how he would fix the damage. He said the house as a challenge but one he could tackle. Our home was badly peeling, a large number of shingles were cracked or missing, rotted wood needed to be replaced, soffits needed repair, sanding and calking had to be completed before the priming and painting of our home could be done.
Peter did not suggest any harsh paint removal techniques. He did not use butane torches sandblasting, or water blasting on our home as some of the other painters had suggested. He and his men used the gentlest method of removing the paint. They hand-scrapped and sanded our three-story home. They also removed over two hundred damaged shingles. When Peter found it would be difficult to replace the patterned shingles, he purchased regular shingles and made hexagon shape for each shingle himself duplicating the original shingles. Our foundation plants were covered in plastic and paint chips from the scrappings were removed from the covered flower beds.
Peter is a professional and a perfectionist. He was easy to work with, always on time and always neat as he went about his work. Each evening his equipment and paint was put away. He checked with us at each step of the process and he was patient when we could not come up with exact accent color we wanted.
We love our "Painted Lady"! Our home looks beautiful and brand new! We could not have chosen a better painter than Peter Lo Conte.
We had 4 rooms painted and they did a great job. Our walls had a lot of imperfections and they were able to smooth them out. They were worked very clean which was useful since we have a young daughter.
Peter’s crew worked throughout the entire day. They were very neat and cleaned up well afterwards. My rooms look great! I am very pleased and would recommend P & M ?Painting
They did a great job without my being there to supervise, and they cleaned u?p very well. Everybody was courteous and worked really hard.
These guys were very professional and did a good job. We were very satisfied.
Peter and his team were very professional and the site supervisor and painters went out of their way to help in any way they could. Painting was done by brush which is old school and came out so much better. I highly recommend P and M Painting.
Very timely, professional, hard working personnel.
The painter was always on time and finished the job in record time, he was very neat and did not make a mess.
We are very happy with our painting job of the outside of our house. Peter Loconte came promptly at 7:30 every morning and worked very hard. He went above and beyond his duty, by taking out the screens in the screen porch so that he could paint the little bit of inside wood that would show on the outside, and then he put them back in. He also painted the shed that nobody had noticed before, and with it’s white trim it now looks like a little doll house. It is adorable. He had good ideas on the colors and the house is completely transformed.
