I recently had A American replace some fluorescent bulbs in my ceiling. The finished work was well done and very acceptable.
When Boris came for the estimate I alerted him that the translucent ceiling panels are easily broken. I also alerted the techs before they started the work. Not surprisingly, four of the eight panels got broken, upon which the lead tech said they would replace them at no charge. During this discussion I asked that they replace all eight panels to maintain color uniformity, and bill me for the second four. We also discussed the color for the new panels. After they left, I called Boris and discussed the situation with him, told him the history and made the same request. He assured me that they would do as I asked.
When the techs came back they had bought clear rather than white as required. I sent them back for the required color. During the next few days I located a possible source for the panels near my home; I informed Boris and suggested that if the neighborhood store (a major chain) did not have enough, that other stores of the chain would probably be able to provide them.
On the third visit by the techs, they brought the correct color of panels, and had purchased nine, I assume just in case they broke another. At the end of the installation they tried to give me the ninth panel, but I refused, as I have no need for the extra and no place to store it.
When I got the bill, I was charged for nine panels and all three trips - by my reckoning, five panels and one more trip than appropriate. After more than one discussion with Boris with no resolution, I will pay the bill simply because I have no time or patience to continue the discussion.
The responsibility is partially mine because I did not insist on a firm written quote with provisions for contractor responsibilities. It is clear that Boris is very disorganized and does not follow up on his promises to call back and resolve issues. The work is good; the business management is not. I won't be back.
