Polished concrete is rapidly becoming the ultimate decorative flooring solution. This high gloss finish never needs waxes or coatings, and it will transform your concrete floor into a beautiful, functional, low maintenance, high performance floor without the use of topical coatings.
Polished concrete has many advantages and can add LEED* points to a project. When a company is professional and has the right equipment, the end result will be a project that is done in a timely, cost effective way. It will produce a floor that is slip resistant, very easy to maintain, and less expensive to keep clean.
Polished concrete is soft to the touch, smooth, dense and lustrous. It can be polished to a smooth glass-like finish that appears wet, or you can have a brilliant marble-like luster, matte or semi-gloss finish in a variety of colors. Polished concrete can be stained, stenciled or engraved to achieve a great decorative floor that shines and mirrors the light in the room. The polishing process transforms a porous concrete floor into a tightened surface, dense enough to keep water, oil, and other contaminants from penetrating the surface. Many facilities and homes are using polished concrete as an alternative to marble, granite, tile, linoleum, carpet or coated concrete.
When a concrete floor is polished, it may look like glass, but it has a higher friction co-efficient than ordinary concrete. Simply put, it is much harder to slip on a polished concrete floor, wet or dry. Polished concrete is able to meet and often exceed OSHA standards for floors. Polished areas can be put into service immediately after the process is complete. Due to the cleanliness of the process and the lack of toxic or hazardous chemicals, there is minimal impact on a business or residence.
