The founder of Heavener Construction and is the current President of H&A.
Gary graduated from Virginia Tech in 1968.
Upon graduation he briefly worked for a general contractor in Atlanta
before he spent two years in the army as an instructor at the Army
Engineering School.
Upon discharge from the Army, Gary entered Georgia Tech and received
a graduate degree in Structures.
He then spent the next two years working for an architectural/
engineering firm as a structural engineer.
He then moved to working for one of the country premier shopping mall
developers, The Rouse Company. He was the project manager on five
megamalls including Atlanta’s Perimeter Mall and Augusta’s own Augusta Mall.
At the completion of Augusta Mall, not wanting to leave Augusta, Gary
went into business for himself doing what he knew best, which was
working on shopping malls. Over the next thirty-five years Heavener
Construction Company constructed some 1,500 commercial projects with
most being retail stores in malls throughout the seven southeastern states.
In 2013 Gary, and two of his employees, Zach and Abram, formed
Heavener & Associates Construction Company. The three have been
able to expand the new company’s area of construction capabilities to
include design/build and ground-up projects. The new company is
licensed in Georgia and South
Carolina only.
