Royalite Skylights & Ladders

Our experience with Royalite was very positive. We wanted to cover the atrium at our house with a transparent skylight but we had never had any significant work like this done before. After reviewing our photos and rough measurements, Bob outlined our options (e.g. frame, types of glass, powered vs. unpowered openables), explained the trade-offs, answered our questions, and guided us to a design.

We asked Royalite for contractor recommendations (to prepare the curbs for Royalite to install the skylight), and we chose one of them. Everything went very smoothly and all the work (both by the contractor and Royalite) was done at the quoted price and before the quoted completion date. We asked a lot of questions along the way, including a couple a few months after installation, and we were always provided prompt and courteous responses.

There was one minor hitch at installation – one openable mechanism was out of stock in the color we wanted. The installation supervisor informed us of this when they arrived, told us they would be installing a temporary unit of a different color so we could use it in the meantime, and gave us an estimate of when they would return to replace it. All that happened exactly as promised.

We are thrilled with how our skylight turned out. It fills the house with natural light and keeps it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Plants thrive in the atrium year-round – we were still getting tomatoes in January. Based on our experience, we are quite happy to recommend Royalite skylights.

As a designer and contractor I have to be aware of not only what is going to be a great look, but the nuts and bolts of how we will get it. I first contacted Royalite close to 20 years ago. I had an Eichler home in Foster City where the clients wanted to cover the atrium with a skylight. I dealt with Jack and Bob on that. We did an 11′ x 15′ gable unit with solar glazing. It made the house. It was well priced, installed on time without issues, is still in place and functioning with no problems. That set the tone of my relationship with Royalite which has not changed in the years since.

Naturally, I buy my small, 2’x2′ or 2’x4, fixed or operable units from Royalite. Always reliable, glazed to spec, ready to pick up on a reasonable time frame. It’s when it comes to the speciality units that it makes a real difference to be working with a professional outfit that cares about product, reputation and I mean mine as well as theirs, and service.

I have over the years, among many others, done a 12’x15′ glass roof for an award winning bathroom in Atherton, a 5’x40′ roof for a hallway in the same house and most recently a 12’x12′ pyramid skylight over an entryway in Hillsborough. All of these were design problems needing a solution by a team who know what the loads are, the strength of materials, have an understanding of the need for visual lightness, etc. When it gets right down to it, there isn’t anyone but Royalite for this sort of work. It’s a waste of time to shop around

I think you may have a niche in the residential customer business.  Our skylight was built before we bought our home.  The company that I tracked down through searching city records was no longer doing residential work.  I was in a panic because as you can see from the picture I attached, the windows had all failed and the anodized aluminum was failing as well.  Fortunately, I found Royalite through the Internet!
