John has unofficially been a part of the industry since he was a
child, often trailing his father (a JJ Altman employee) between
construction sites. In 1985, John joined the Altman-Charter team as a
Project Manager. He is an expert in customer service, scheduling,
communication, cash flows, labor productivity, and perception vs. reality.
Most of his success can be attributed to skills he has learned while
on the job, he is distinguished from others through his strong
analytical and problem-solving expertise.
Since becoming president in 2004, John has taken an active role in
Altman-Charter’s preconstruction efforts, supporting the process
leading up to the start of a project (including progress drawing
review, cost analysis, value engineering, design constructability
reviews, contract document review, etc.). John works closely with
A/C’s estimating/procurement staff, to ensure each project is bid
effectively and competitively.
John received his BSCE from Marquette University. In his free time,
he enjoys falling into the depths of a great book. He likes novels of
all kind, from historical fiction to titles chosen by his children.
John is also an avid sports fan, often spending his time cheering on
the Blues at Scottrade Center or the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
Mark Lawder joined J.J. Altman in 1984 after working for the Missouri
Metal Shaping, producing parts for the aircraft industry. Since
joining the organization, he has become an expert in construction
management and design-build projects. In 1996, Mark became a partner
of Altman-Charter. In his tenure at Altman-Charter, Mark has
functioned in many capacities for the organization. In this time, he
has not only broadened his knowledge base to include management and
big picture thinking, but he has also overseen day-to-day field
operations, often mentoring young project managers. After completing
hundreds of projects over the years, Mark has a unique understanding
regarding effective project flow and how to reach completion on time
and under budget.
Today, Mark focuses his efforts around preconstruction in support of
business development. He works with owners and architects to develop a
plan that will deliver the best solution at the lowest cost. Mark is
an alum of Rockhurst University with a Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration. He spends his free-time with his wife of 33 years,
Janet. Together, they have four children and try to spend time at
their lake house in Litchfield, IL.
Eddie Stechschulte joined Altman-Charter in 2003. With nine years of
project management experience, he has managed a wide variety of
projects throughout the region. Since joining Altman-Charter Eddie has
managed the construction of several senior living facilities and a
variety of renovation/remodel projects.
In 2013, Eddie began his business development role with the goal to
expand Altman-Charter’s presence in senior, affordable, multi-family
and remodel projects. Today, he works closely with clients from
project start tTo finish to ensure the needs of the project and the
clients are being met.
When Eddie isn’t on site, he enjoys spending time with his wife and
two children. As a Kansas City native, he can always be found rooting
for his beloved Jayhawks and ALL Missouri MLB teams.
