John has unofficially been a part of the industry since he was a child, often trailing his father (a JJ Altman employee) between construction sites. In 1985, John joined the Altman-Charter team as a Project Manager. He is an expert in customer service, scheduling, communication, cash flows, labor productivity, and perception vs. reality.
Most of his success can be attributed to skills he has learned while on the job, he is distinguished from others through his strong analytical and problem-solving expertise.
Since becoming president in 2004, John has taken an active role in Altman-Charter’s preconstruction efforts, supporting the process leading up to the start of a project (including progress drawing review, cost analysis, value engineering, design constructability reviews, contract document review, etc.). John works closely with A/C’s estimating/procurement staff, to ensure each project is bid effectively and competitively.
John received his BSCE from Marquette University. In his free time, he enjoys falling into the depths of a great book. He likes novels of all kind, from historical fiction to titles chosen by his children. John is also an avid sports fan, often spending his time cheering on the Blues at Scottrade Center or the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
