Scope Of Work

Hosting big names like Danny Glover, Spike Lee, Norm MacDonald, Seth Meyers, Dr. Maya Angelou and Rob van Winkle (AKA Vanilla Ice), Northeastern’s Blackman auditorium has accommodated a wide variety of talent since its foundation in 1940.

In order to keep the show running, the University sought to improve the auditorium’s use as a flexible multi-form hall to better support its theatre, lectures, classes, music concerts, movies and guest events.

Called upon to help transform the space, we installed new seating, flooring, theatrical lighting and upgrades to back-of-the-house spaces as well as the mechanical, electrical and life safety systems.

The new seating was made to accommodate up to 992 people and was installed with curved aisles and maple wood flooring. The back-of-the-house spaces we constructed include six dressing rooms, three showrooms and a props/staging area.

Throughout the project, we coordinated with Northeastern to keep the bookstore and adjacent buildings with classrooms and a cafeteria open and fully operational for the students. Our project team scheduled material delivery and noisy construction work to minimize the impact to the University’s campus. The project was completed in 13 weeks over the University’s summer break.
