Our Story

Michigan home and business owners know that when it comes to premium quality fabric awnings, there is only one name to know and one company to call: Belle Isle Awning.

Since 1931, we have provided fabric awnings of exceptional beauty, durability, and value to countless homes and businesses throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, never settling for less than outstanding quality and completely satisfied customers. It’s a family tradition of excellence that began at our first location on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit, and which continues to this day.

Belle Isle Awning’s founder William Belluomo began by making hand crafted high-quality sails for yachtsmen and merchant seamen on the Detroit River in the early years of the twentieth century. His beautiful, rugged, and perfectly-fitted sails gained him a reputation for unmatched skill and craftsmanship. Before long, many of his satisfied customers began to turn to him to create tents and awnings for their shops, storefronts, and residences. In 1931, Belle Isle Awning was born, in a Jefferson Avenue location overlooking Belle Isle Park.

Belle Isle Awning quickly established itself as the area’s preeminent maker of custom awnings for homes and businesses. The business continually grew. The company moved to progressively larger facilities as customer demand and production requirements increased.

Eighty-four years after its founding, Belle Isle Awning is now in its fourth location and in its fourth generation of family management. Today, William’s great-grandson Blair Belluomo manages day-to-day operations of this successful Michigan business. While many things may have changed, Belle Isle Awning’s proud family tradition of quality remains: Under Blair’s leadership, the company still maintains the personalized service, quality materials, and excellent craftsmanship that established its reputation as the region’s leader in premier-quality awnings.

As Belle Isle Awning prepares to enter its 85th year as a proud family business, we still stand for quality, craftsmanship, and value. These are the principles that made us a success in 1931, and they are the principles we stand by today.
