Scope Of Work

The Oliver Hazard Perry Middle School is the second Gilbane Special Project (GSP) awarded to Heroica Construction. The content of this contract substantially consisted of painting work, although the Heroica team eventually provided several other services to the owners of the Oliver Hazard Perry Middle School. This painting contract was among one of the single largest and most complex jobs for Heroica Construction.

In our signature approach, Heroica Construction provides a competitive advantage by self-performing key areas of the project to better control and schedule required labor resources. On this particular project, we self-performed all of the painting work with the exception of electrostatic painting, which was completed by a well established electrostatic specialty contractor. By subcontracting this work, the Heroica team was able to focus on the enormous painting requirements using a combination of brushes, rollers, and spraying techniques.

Above all, the most challenging aspect of this project was the painting of many plaster ornate details in the lobby, corridor, and auditorium. This painting work required the highest quality craftsmanship and the steadiest of hands to follow the intricate paint schemes devised by the project’s architect.

In a close second for the most challenging aspect of this project was the work needed to clean and paint the gymnasium bar joist, purlins, and mechanical units. After years of collecting dust and dirt, careful consideration was needed to prepare these 20′ high surfaces for painting.

Because the school building was occupied, low VOC products were paramount in performing this contract work. Maintaing our excellent worker’s compensation and liability safety record, there were no personal or property damage claims that occurred on this job. In addition, our previous experience in this line of work allowed us to complete this project in record time.
