Calisto Bertin's Bio
Calisto Bertin is a licensed professional engineer with over 40 years of experience in engineering design and construction oversight of civil and structural projects in the northeastern United States. He has also designed projects and prepared engineering studies in Ontario, Canada and Abu Dhabi, UAE.
EXPERIENCE
Mr. Bertin’s introduction to concrete began at a very young age working in the family concrete and masonry business where Calisto gained over a decade of experience mixing mortar, cement and concrete for construction projects. After earning his engineering degrees, in 1978, he became a construction engineer for Westvaco Corporation, an industrial paper manufacturer where he oversaw the construction and quality control of concrete and steel structures including power plant turbine generator replacements. This included concrete field testing similar to that of an ACI-Grade 1 Technician, and concrete construction Special Inspector.
In 1980, Mr. Bertin joined Exxon Company, USA where he served as a project engineer managing the construction of bulk and retail petroleum facilities. After obtaining his professional engineering license in 1984, Calisto moved into design consulting, first working for a small firm; and then opening Bertin Engineering in 1986. For over 30 years he serves as the chief civil and structural engineer designing commercial and residential developments. His experience in concrete design includes retaining walls, culverts, specialty foundations and low-rise buildings. He also performs the evaluation of structures, the forensic investigation of failed structures, and the development of rehabilitation programs to restore structures.
In 1998, while maintaining his role at Bertin Engineering, Mr. Bertin acquired and continues to serve as the chairman of Johnson Soils Company, a geotechnical engineering and testing company. It also performs the design of deep and shallow foundations. He expanded their services to include Special Inspection of concrete reinforcing, and field concrete testing and placement.
In 2020, Mr. Bertin performed the design and oversaw the construction and AASHTO accreditation of a concrete testing lab for C&L Construction Testing.
