Our Story

Rick Baehr began Appalachian Contractors Inc. in the spring of 1999.  At that time he owned and operated Berkshire and Columbia County’s premier disaster restoration company and the construction branch added value to the service he was already providing for his customers.  Rick’s primary goal with both of those companies was to provide emergency responses, repairs, cleaning, drying and reconstruction to residences and businesses after fire damage, smoke damage, wind damage, ice damage, flood damage, water damage, mold damage, vandalism damage and odors caused by animals, mold, etc.

Today Rick’s sole company is Appalachian Contractors, which still provides 24 hour 365 days a year services for some emergencies, like board-ups after fires and vandalism, temporary repairs to roofs after tree or storm damage, and tree removals.

As the company has grown, it has expanded its scope of work to include residential and commercial flooring, painting, drywall, siding, roofing and deck repairs and installations, and all forms of remodeling, including recreational rooms, play rooms, dens and basement makeovers.

Although a large percent of the work is generated through insurance loses, insurance adjusters, insurance agencies and insurance companies, Appalachian Contractors has also branched out to new construction, building homes entirely from scratch for some of their customers.

The company’s large loss department has rebuilt, repaired and painted schools, churches, museums, historical society buildings, highway department garages, office buildings, libraries, police stations, college dormitories, jails, law offices, court houses, gym floors and city governmental buildings.

Over the past two decades, its list of subcontracted service providers, such as electricians, plumbers and excavation contractors, has also grown.  Due to the large volume of business Appalachian Contractors shares with them, these subcontractors can respond to any emergency quickly and with a minimum of “red tape.”

Appalachian Contractors provides free consultations and free estimates no matter how large or small the job or the project that you may have.
