“Cabinetry,” he explains, “is different from other trades, which are simple to order. When you order Sheetrock or appliances, etc., you have a model number, call the supplier and say, ‘I need 20 of this, and 10 of this,’ and they just deliver it. With cabinetry, though, there’s a design process; a consultation is required so that a conflict doesn't occur with the other cabinets or appliances. There's a lot of coordination involved, and with a multifamily project it is even more so. When it comes to 100 or 200 units, you can’t just have a supplier drop off stuff. It's a whole process that needs a lot of focus and a personal level of attention.”

HNL, in fact, specializes in bringing value and individualized attention to the process—from supply to install, which, Abraham notes, is best achieved by taking a holistic approach. He says, “There are companies saying they are doing all the services customers are asking for, but the reality is they’re not. What I’ve witnessed is companies trying to come in with the lowest bid so they’re not giving an accurate quote. They might cut corners or they don't hire enough people to service so many projects; they end up losing money on a yearly basis and they go out of business.”

The right way, in Abraham’s opinion, is for full transparency right from the start. “We make a separate charge for the services that the contractor is really expecting. We’re not about the lowest price; we want our customers to understand the value of the actual materials and the value of the services. Our model allows customers to pick and choose which services they want or need—and see the price line for each service, whether for the cabinets themselves, coordinated countertops, shop drawings, field measurements. There are no surprises.”
