Founded in 2001 by Gary Maynard and his wife Kristina Kinsman, the firm evolved from the couple’s lifelong love of the sea and the logical progression of Gary’s unusual career, first as a commercial sailor on tall ships, then as a wooden boat and ship builder, and finally as an elite custom home builder.

“Sailing and shipbuilding have informed everything I do as a builder, manager and craftsman,” says Gary. “Wooden sailing ships have to withstand the enormous stresses imposed by the vagaries of wind and weather, yet they do so with grace, beauty and longevity. These are the characteristics we build into our homes.”

How We Work

Holmes Hole Builders provides the strength and expertise of a larger firm with the personalized attention to detail and customer service of an owner-operated company.

Each project has a licensed Superintendent dedicated to the job from beginning to end. He will be on-site every day and will be fluent in all technical aspects of the construction and will have input into the scheduling, manning and budget for the job.
