David Stokes's Bio
David Scott Stokes believes design is a form of problem-solving; and aesthetics is but one of the many aspects of any potential solution.
As head of office production, David pairs meticulous attention to detail with knowledge of how buildings are put together. More than this, he understands the nature of materials and the craftsmanship involved in assembling them. He is interested in exploring various techniques in communicating the design of a building to those charged with building it. David’s exacting approach to design documentation balances rigorous process with strong design intuition. He has been a strong advocate for using the latest technology to document the firm’s designs and to adapt methods of communication to make the most efficient use of technology.
David is passionate about continuing education, and takes every opportunity to add to his knowledge. Such issues as building technology, the impact of construction and the use of buildings on the environment and the availability of earth’s resources are of particular concern and interest.
With over 30 years of experience on a broad range of projects, David has specialized in housing, ranging from high-end, single-family residences to affordable, multi-family housing for non-profit developers. He is a graduate of Iowa State University, where he received a BA in Architecture in 1979. He has been a Registered Architect in the State of California since 1984.
Javier Molina's Bio
Javier Molina’s expertise is in the development and transformation of great concepts into reality. Regardless of whether the concept is his or a colleague’s, his true passion is the design development process by which the concept transforms into building form.
Javier deciphers, analyzes, and defines concepts to fully grasp the architectural vision prior to developing the physical details. Whether it is planning large developments, or the design of individual structures, the process is consistently the same. The firm’s projects demonstrate a keen commitment to the concept and are strengthened and enriched through his attention to details.
Javier understands his role as a managing partner in a business. However, it is his reputation as an architect working in the trenches that has helped build a successful firm. He is enthralled with and committed to the design process and how buildings come together, through the incorporation of the materials and their construction methodology. Javier’s active role as a partner in the design process gives the firm a unique characteristic which has helped build a portfolio of work that is user friendly, contextually responsive, and extraordinarily elegant.
As a self taught businessman, Javier is a composed, calm and collected leader whose confident style inspires and motivates those around him to trust their instincts and to pursue excellence. His life experience as an only son to a single parent growing up in downtown Los Angeles, has given him the motivation and the drive for success and a keen ability to take on the challenges that confront every business. These characteristics are woven into his style of leadership and communicated to project managers – making the daily operations of the company a well integrated and smooth process.
A graduate of the University of Southern California, including study abroad, he is a dedicated follower of USC athletics. Early in his career, Javier worked with several reputable firms as a designer, project architect and project manager, helping them design and develop academic buildings, retail centers, and government facilities. He co-founded Quatro Design Group in 1996 and has been a registered architect in the state of California since 1992.
Juan Ortiz's Bio
Juan C. Ortiz graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1999 with an emphasis on community planning and housing. His academic focus at Cal Poly sparked a fascination for how the built environment affects its users. His professional endeavors include a diverse mix of project types such as multi-family housing with community and educational components. Juan’s project experience and role has varied widely throughout his many years of practice, but his focus has always been on the end user’s positive experience of their built environment and the design process entailed in bringing it to fruition.
As a versatile individual with a strong design background, Juan brings a unique sensibility not often found in the daily role of Project Management. His balance of design, technical know-how, and creative problem solving enable him to effectively lead team members, clients and stakeholders, in pursuit of a common goal on increasingly complex projects.
Recently, Juan has primarily focused on higher educational facilities with inherent challenges of complex and multi-user programs. His hands-on approach has consistently exceeded the client’s and end user’s expectations. His high standard for every project he undertakes ensures that all aspects are given the proper attention and that all goals and milestones are met every time.
Through the everyday challenges of managing projects, Juan always knows that the end result has to be a building that will satisfy the user’s pragmatic needs, but also a building that will inform, cultivate and inspire its users in their everyday lives.
Kevin Tyrrell's Bio
Kevin Tyrrell approaches architecture as an urbanist with a socio-environmental perspective, and is a firm believer that at its best, architecture can embody our nobler nature.
As a young architect living in Los Angeles during the civil unrest of 1992, he observed the dissonance of an architectural community that was dramatically capturing the world stage with bold self-referential designs while failing to connect to the communities immediately around them in any meaningful way. The ensuing self-reflection and the desire to make such connections led him to pursue graduate studies in urban design.
His professional path has crossed with that of many talented architects and urban thinkers, which led to his participation on many award-winning projects. Such work included a number of high profile urban scale architectural projects on the forefront of sustainable design. He is a LEED™ Accredited Professional with over 2 million square feet of LEED™ Certified construction completed, and formed the QDG Sustainability Workgroup, a forum dedicated to the discourse and exploration of sustainable strategies.
Kevin brings over twenty years of experience on a wide range of project types. While his primary focus is the oversight of education, civic and urban design projects, his knowledge of housing, mixed-use and commercial projects is broadly utilized. On each project, he is heavily involved from initial design concepts to the smallest details, working closely with clients throughout the process. He is also knowledgeable on alternative project delivery methods, such as design-build.
Kevin received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California, including study in Italy and later earned a Master of Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University. His work at Columbia won an international urban design competition and was exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, Detroit and Berlin.
Ricardo Rodriguez's Bio
Ricardo Rodriguez’s fascination with the growth of cities has inspired him to blend social and cultural influences with art and architecture in the redevelopment of urban neighborhoods.
His innate sensitivity to design brings a rigorous energy to the design process that challenges the firm’s culture and expands their sensibilities. Ricardo artfully blends client and user ideas with the site context, program, and site specifics to establish a well-defined conceptual framework.
Ricardo believes that the process of discovering how a community originally came together can inspire new directions and redevelopment. His respect for culture and history enables him to achieve permanence in his own design. With over 27 years of experience, his most basic influence stems from his upbringing in affordable housing. His philosophy on revitalizing communities is simple – in order to change the way people live, you must first change the environment. His strongest efforts have been in the areas of urban design – specifically how a pedestrian engages with buildings and the ideals of “place making.”
A graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelor of Architecture, Ricardo’s passion for architecture is always tempered with a keen awareness of real-world obstacles. He instinctively knows that projects need to be built on time and within reasonable budgets. In 1996, Ricardo co-founded Quatro Design Group and brought to the firm a strong sense of design in the Housing, Commercial and Institutional Markets.
