Our Story

Drammer Construction, Inc. was founded on the extensive knowledge and experience of over 60 years of family history in the construction industry. From sweeping out housing tracks when he was just 12 years old, to becoming a partner in Drammer & Sons in 1993, Matt Drammer was literally raised as a builder. It is this formidable background in custom home building, remodeling and commercial construction that fuels the visionary design and creativity of Drammer Construction.

Through a close partnership with his father, Stephen Drammer, Matt gained critical hands on experience in the management and oversight of nearly every building trade at an early age. From concrete to framing, plumbing to roofing, Matt assisted with the construction of several of the 2,800 homes and commercial buildings that Drammer & Sons built here in Santa Barbara as well as Colorado, Arizona and Hawaii. In his travels to India he worked with his father and brothers to design and build a training center for Campus Crusade for Christ in Bengalor. In a mere six months they created 50,000 square feet of buildings -- three separate structuresto be used for education and cultural communication. Through all of this, a lifetime passion was born.

In 1996 Matt relocated to Murphy’s, California, outside of San Francisco, and founded Drammer Construction, Inc. It is there that Matt further expanded his knowledge by engaging in the construction of various commercial buildings, single family residences and numerous other projects, including The Victorian Inn, a 20,000 square foot bed and breakfast with retail shops. Following the example set by his father, Matt approached each client with the highest level of integrity and honesty. In three years he quickly earned a reputation as a superior builder who used unique, high quality, environmentally friendly materials. Through his interest in sustainable building practices, Matt soon became a Member of the U.S. Green Building Council. He has since created custom homes using straw bales as well as hybrid material known as “rastra,” erected one of the first solar homes near the coast of Santa Barbara and constructed timber frame homes with primarily reclaimed wood. While he continues to refine his use of reclaimed and reusable materials in all of his design build work, Matt is infinitely familiar with modern materials such as concrete block, steel and glass. It is the blending and juxtaposition of such materials that is a defining aspect of his work.

With the desire to return to his roots, in 1999 Matt relocated his offices to Los Olivos, California where he was raised. For the past 17 years, he has developed an extensive client base throughout the Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Barbara in his focus on all aspects of design, remodel, renovation and custom building.  By developing a personal relationship with each client, and understanding their needs and concerns, Matt is able to address and resolve each issue in the most creative and cost effective way. With a lifetime of experience, he is able to overcome the myriad obstacles hidden through the design process to realize each client’s vision. Matt is truly more than a builder; he prefers to start with the site as his base and raw materials as his tools. “The materials drive the form and create the palette, which then open up the design.” This is the personalized experience that each client may expect.

When the remodel or redesign of a home is required, Matt strives to understand the client and their particular use or desire for each aspect of the space. The process starts with client meetings for Matt to listen to their concerns, understand their lives and how they envision their home as a reflection of their lives. More often than not, he finds that a client who wished for additional space may not have not studied their home to see if each space is being utilized in the most useful way. Through the evaluation of lifestyle, form and function, a tired space may be reoriented toward exciting new possibilities. Every client of Drammer Construction is given this valuable step toward a customized living experience.

Whether you are looking to build new, remodel, restore, update or simply re-envision your space, Drammer Construction, Inc. is the design build partner for you.

“If you just want a house, no; but, if you want to build your home, then I am the right person for you.”
~ Matt Drammer

Matt is also a father to Jenna and Mason.
