Our Story

Barsh Construction originated as a one man contracting organization as W.H. Barsh turned his carpentry skills to contracting in an effort to work his way through Baylor University Law School.  Upon completion of law school, Mr. Barsh remained in the contracting business and for forty years Barsh Construction Company thrived in the construction industry in the Central Texas area.  Mr. W.H. Barsh passed away in September 1995 and at that time Barsh Construction Company was sold to employees Vernon Leuschner and Tate Christensen.  Barsh Construction Company then became know as Barsh Company.  Barsh Company has continued the philosophy of Mr. Barsh as a diversified organization that enjoys the challenge of a difficult project and has maintained a philosophy of skill, responsibility, integrity, and versatility.

Through the years, our major growth has come from the competitive hard bid marketplace and with repeat business from satisfied customers.  The company now performs ten to twelve million dollars of construction annually and the major portion of that dollar volume comes from competitive bidding.  However, we also continue to have repeated business with several clients that include Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and Texas Electrical Utilities Company.  We have also expanded our marketplace to include design/build projects such as the Raleigh Building Renovations for the State of Texas and the additions to the Lorena High School.  Our greatest success has been in difficult, challenging unique projects which require a great deal of diversity.  Our experience ranges across a broad spectrum of construction activity including industrial, commercial, and institutional construction.  Barsh Company believes a general contractor should have expertise in all the basic building trades, the basic man power available to perform these basic trades, have the proper equipment available to efficiently perform the work, and to subcontract specialty work to established and reputable trade contractors. In today’s marketplace there are many firms which attempt to subcontract 100% of the work to other companies.  It is our philosophy that this is an inefficient method by which to manage the construction process and schedules, cost, and quality of construction are difficult to maintain.  Barsh Company currently has approximately fifty full time employees.   Additional personnel is employed on an as needed basis.

We believe that one of the reasons for our success is the performance of many construction trades performed by our field personnel.  We believe that performance by our own personnel results in a more efficient control of the construction process, shorter time for construction, better quality control, and savings to the Owner.
