Scope Of Work
This new charter school for Edkey, Inc (formerly Sequoia Schools) in the Eastmark Development followed GCON’s Design-Build process with custom Program development and competitive Design RFP (refer to page 2 for more details on GCON’s Design-Build Process).
A K-6 school for 45o students, construction began with new site grading and infrastructure and is comprised of a slab on grade,tilt-up concrete frame with metal stud walls and a combination of EIFS and Hardie Board systems. Designed for a “children’s museum” feel, this facility consists of interchangeable, interactive learning resources and demonstrations built into classrooms, common areas and learning boulevards (hallways). Additionally, all 18 classrooms have additional learning space to allow for small group activities and exploration of skills and concepts.
Other aspects of the school include a computer lab, a multipurpose room/gymnasium, an outdoor interactive learning playground, and a library in the student common area. A unique feature to this STEM Academy school is the open grand rotunda on the exterior providing students and faculty a special outdoor place to congregate. GCON assisted with FF&E and move-in coordination. This fast-track project was completed in just six months.
