Our Story
Before founding GenCon, Marvin Wheeless worked at Fort Rucker as a Post Architect for over thirteen years. In 1979, with the help of a close friend, Marvin left Fort Rucker to pursue his dream of starting his own business. A year later, Marvin bought the business from his close friend and built the first ever GenCon office in his backyard.
GenCon prides itself in being a close knit, family oriented business. From the beginning, GenCon has created many jobs for close friends and family members. GenCon started by focusing on governmental contracting jobs but has grown over the years to specialize in ecclesiastical, educational, healthcare, industrial, multi-family housing, and retail construction. In 2010, the GenCon office relocated from Marvin's backyard to where it currently resides at Searcy Road in Newton, Alabama.
Since officially retiring in 2018, Marvin continues to help his son, Jonathan Wheeless, and son-in-law, Erik Vogt, as they carry on the GenCon legacy by delivering best-in-class services with integrity and expertise.
