I am a construction law attorney who has over 15 years of experience representing general contractors, custom homebuilders, 8a contractors, remodelers, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers and architects in both California and Nevada. Maria is a regular guest lecturer for numerous organizations including the National Business Institute, California Professional Association of Specialty Contractors, Building Industry Association, Southern California Remodelers’ Council.
BACKGROUND
Ms. Plumtree came from a long line of contractors. Her grandfather was a master tile setter who migrated from Italy and opened a tile setting business in 1940. Her uncle took the family business and expanded it to a general contractor business. Her cousin purchased the oldest roofing company in Albany, New York and has kept the doors open since 1991.
In her formative years, and partly to keep me out of trouble, Maria was “shipped” to New York so that she could stay out of trouble by learning how to appreciate hard work. This included roofing and hot mopping. After a particularly hot summer, Maria learned that she was “not interested” in working in the construction field and went to law school.
After becoming a licensed attorney, she discovered that a majority of contractors were underrepresented in the legal community. Because of her family’s involvement in construction, she decided to focus her law practice on the representation of contractors. Prior to founding Plumtree & Tran, LLP, Ms. Plumtree worked for a multi-state law firm in Las Vegas, Nevada representing developers that included Beazer and Pardee. She has litigated numerous construction defect cases and was part of the trial team that litigated Shuette v. Beazer Homes Holding Corp. in 2005. That case is still cited as valid Nevada law.
I returned to California where she worked for another large multi-state law firm that represented subcontractors prior to breaking out on her own in 2006.
