Michael T. Kornegay ...
began his real estate career by purchasing his first home, a 4 unit apartment building, in Southeast, DC at the age of 28. He left his position as a high school Social Studies teacher in the PGCPS to become a full-time realtor and real estate investor. His 1st four years as a realtor, he sold investment properties (4 unit in particular) to 1st time homebuyers. He left the classroom, but not teaching altogether because he had the responsibility of nurturing these new investors until they were able to navigate on their own.
A few years later ...
he obtained his associate broker's license in the District of Columbia as well as his GRI, ePro and ABR designations in real estate. In addition, he managed a real estate sales team as well as his personal portfolio of investments properties that time. He later started a property management company called Housing Urban Management in 2008 - just 9 credits shy of obtaining his MBA in Marketing from Howard University.
After about 2 years ...
of doing traditional property management, Mr. Kornegay had an idea which was ... he could produce what is called a Property Services Bundle (with plans starting as low as $20 per month) which could serve as an efficient and cost-effective alternative to property management if he could rearrange the molecules, integrate a little more technology and establish a few rules and channels.
Mr. Kornegay is also the Vice Chairman of the DC Housing Providers Association and very active in the community and Founder of the Landlord Unity Movement in DC.
