Scope Of Work
Casino Places Winning Bet DSI to Design and Build State-of-the-Art Data Center to Meet Growth Needs
Chumash Casino Resort is a 190,000-square-foot complex nestled in the heart of Santa Barbara wine country, featuring a 24-hour gaming floor, live entertainment, -winning fine dining and legendary hospitality at the resort’s AAA Four Diamond-rated hotel and spa. The resort is owned and operated by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.
THE CHALLENGE: Outdated Data Center Hinders Growth Objectives
As the Chumash Casino Resort continued to prosper, their existing data center was creating challenges as it was proving too small to handle the technology needs of the growing business. With a hotel expansion project slated for construction, the Casino Resort recognized this would be the ideal opportunity to build a new data center complete with state-of-the-art electrical, cooling and network redundancies.
THE DSI SOLUTION: Design, Manage and Install Highly-Efficient Data Center
The Casino Resort turned to Data Specialties Inc. (DSI) to address their data center needs. DSI worked closely with IT staff to thoroughly assess the specific needs of the business and ongoing expansion plans. For budgetary purposes, the cost of the new data center was incorporated into the hotel expansion project and involved the existing engineering and construction team (electrical, mechanical, fire and life safety, and builders).
Based on the assessment, DSI designed and installed 20 data center cabinets and rack mounted PDUs (2 PODs), Hot Aisle Containment, monitoring, grounding, and a redundant data center structured cabling system (OM3 Fiber and Cat. 6A connectivity to each cabinet).
DSI carefully coordinated with the various Casino Resort teams and worked with construction management to maintain the aggressive construction schedule. DSI worked with IT staff and the electrical team for electrical outlet distribution, the mechanical/fire suppression team for the Hot Aisle Containment, and the IT and telecommunications staff for the structured cabling solution.
