Andrew Edwards has been with Dunn since 1988, starting out as an on-site project manager on various projects throughout the Southeast. He worked in Dunn’s former offices in Jacksonville, Florida and Jackson, Mississippi as an estimator and a project manager.
From 1997 to early 2000, Andrew worked as a senior project manager for a large general contractor outside the Dunn organization. He returned in March 2000 as Executive Vice President of Dunn Building Company.
Andrew has personally managed a broad range of industrial, commercial and institutional projects for public, private and private non-profit clients. He has managed work in the roles of general contractor, subcontractor, construction manager and design-build contractor. He is well versed in all aspects of construction—including constructability, safety, quality control, design, cost, legal and accounting issues.
Andrew earned a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1988. In 1992/93 he took a sabbatical from Dunn, and earned his Masters degree in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology—having performed course work in MIT’s Sloan School of Management, as well as course work and a thesis in MIT’s Center for Construction Research and Education. Andrew is a Designated Design-Build Professional™, certified by the Design Build Institute of America.
Andrew is active in various professional organizations, including the Design Build Institute of America (where he is the President of the South Central Region), as well as the Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama (where he is a past board member). He is involved with local economic development efforts, and is a member of the Economic Development Association of Alabama, and represents Dunn at the Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association. He is a member of the Alabama Technology Network’s External Relations Council, and the Birmingham Business Alliance’s Leadership Council for Metal and Steel Manufacturing. He is a Board Member for the Business Center of Alabama, and is an appointed Board Member to the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority.
Andrew and his wife Jill have a teenage daughter and a teenage son. He is active in All Saints’ Episcopal Church, an alumni and a past Board Member of Leadership Vestavia Hills, the Treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 4, and a past youth soccer and lacrosse coach. Andrew enjoys swimming, biking and running, as well as golfing and bird hunting.
