Scope Of Work
Vehicle Safety Barrier Construction & Installation
The construction and installation of seven vehicle Safety Barriers at the Moakley Federal Courthouse, Boston, MA
Post 9/11, the John Joseph Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston, MA was in need of several perimeter security upgrades. These upgrades included stationary security bollards as well as active vehicle barrier gate arms at the (7) vehicle access points to the building. Due to budgetary and design limitations, the project was split into three separate phases. Classic Site Solutions, Inc. was contracted by the General Services Administration to complete Phase I of the three phase improvement. Classic was subsequently awarded Phase II and Phase III.
The method selected to secure the perimeter of the building was a steel pipe bollard and concrete reinforced grade beam system along the curb line of the pedestrian walkway. Steel pipe bollards were covered with a decorative cast iron shroud. Active vehicle barrier gate arms were installed at the (7) vehicle access points. Restoration/installation of granite curb, granite pavers, detectable granite pavers, granite cobble stones, brick pavers and light poles was performed in all three phases of the project. Additionally, new electrical, hydraulic and controls systems were required for the third phase of the security improvement project to support the (7) active vehicle barriers installed on Courthouse Way.
