Scope Of Work
Named after its benefactors, Clifton and Delores Wharton, Michigan State University's Wharton Center for Performing Arts rivals the best concert halls and theaters in the country. The Christman Company provided general contracting services for the construction of this magnificent theater.
In addition to the Great Hall, which accommodates 2,515 people, and the Festival Stage which seats 600, the facility also boasts a green room, reception areas, a box office, gift shop and a cafe.
The Wharton Center has been critically acclaimed as one of the finest university stages in the country. It has also been the recipient of the Masonry , The National Landscape and the Handicapper Accessibility .
In 2008, the Christman team was selected to provide construction management services for a $13 million addition and renovation to the Wharton Center for Performing Arts.
The project consists of a four-story addition (approximately 16,000 s.f.) to the northwest face of the building which will house the expansion of the administrative, marketing and production offices, additional rehearsal rooms, the box office, library, concession service, storage space, computer support and marketing functions, with renovations to occur in the existing spaces.
The project also includes a four-story renovation (approximately 6,700 s.f.) to the south loading dock for increased back of house access and support facilities. This space will provide performer preparation spaces including star dressing rooms, cast dressing rooms, laundry, crew preparation and storage areas for both the Great Hall and Pasant theatres.
