Scope Of Work

The Sanibel Library serves as a community anchor for the island. One that encourages lifelong learning, discovery and enrichment. The library was started in 1960 by a group of volunteers and is now in it’s third location on Dunlop Road in Sanibel, Florida. Since it’s opening in 1994, the building has been expanded and structurally renovated.

In 2015, the Sanibel Public Library District began a campaign for “Your Library Reimagined”. This campaign was designed to reevaluate the use of the building and how those uses could potentially change in the future with a focus on fresh, new, dynamic services and programs for the community.

In November 2016, Chris-Tel Construction was chosen to provide Construction Manager-at-Risk services for the Sanibel Public Library District for the renovations to the facility. The project was designed by HBM Architects and was completed in two phases.

Phase I included renovations to the West side of the building, both floors for the HVAC, fire and MEP systems, interior renovations to include a user-centered service design with flexible multi-purpose rooms for reading and research, multiple technology centers, children’s storytime space, new elevator, stairwell, restrooms and office renovations, exterior renovations, new bookdrop, service desk and display areas.

Phase II will include major renovations to the East side of the facility to include book display area, modernization of the current elevator and entry stair, meeting rooms, office space and lounge areas. Phase I was completed in January 2018 and Phase II is on task to be completed in May 2018.

Some sustainable design features include low energy consumption HVAC, plumbing and electrical, day-light controls, water efficient landscaping, recycled materials, flexible walls to increase operational efficiency and maximize space.
