Scope Of Work

As part of a districtwide facilities improvement initiative, the Mountain View Whisman School District allocated Measure G funds to modernize the Stevenson Elementary School campus. American Modular Systems (AMS) designed and fabricated seven new permanent modular buildings to accommodate the school’s K-5 students, adding a total of 24,480 SF of learning, office and flex space adjoining a grassy play yard. The heart of the new campus is an 84×40 administration building with a spacious lobby flowing into shared public spaces, including a kitchen, nurse’s office, principal’s office, staff room and storage . Six single-story buildings house 18 open-concept classrooms and staff/student restrooms, configured as a pair of 80×32 and 40×32 kindergarten wings, with larger 190×32, 140×32, 120×32 and 90×32 classroom buildings for grades 1-5.

Though accelerated delivery was critical to a successful outcome, providing high-quality, durable and aesthetically pleasing buildings was equally important to the District, which worked closely with the AMS team to incorporate budget-friendly upgrades and customizations to each building’s floorplan and façade. Conventional grid-patterned stucco was finished onsite, unifying different-sized buildings into a cohesive campus with a distinctly custom feel. Large architectural windows fill interior learning spaces with natural light, enhancing student productivity while yielding energy- and cost-savings for the school. Carpet-covered concrete floors withstand heavy traffic and absorb noise—a practical choice for a busy elementary school. Full markerboard walls and networked technology promote collaborative learning, facilitating the multi-device data sharing essential for a 21st century learning experience.
