Scope Of Work
The Campbell Union School District is committed to growing its early education services, adding and expanding child care and preschool facilities Districtwide as part of its popular CUSD Extension Programs. To accommodate increasing enrollment, CUSD approached American Modular Systems (AMS), a partner on previous early education projects, to collaborate on designing and building two new high performance prefab classroom wings at Sherman Oaks, a dual immersion preschool on the elementary school campus. The modern, energy-efficient buildings house two large classrooms with a handicap-accessible restroom, in addition to a multi-use preschool classroom—all with a spacious open layout that gives active preschoolers room to learn and play.
Both interior and exterior design choices reflect CUSD’s desire to provide a healthy, environmentally-sound and maintenance-free space that is safe and nurturing for young children. Low- and no-VOC materials and finishes combine with natural ventilation to maintain superior indoor air quality throughout. Solatube skylights complement extra large view windows, giving the bright, sunny classrooms a connection to the outdoors. The extensive daylighting, high efficiency HVAC systems and airtight building envelope are energy-saving measures that cut operating costs for the District, while ensuring occupant comfort year-round. The sustainable design carries through to the exterior, which features a steep-pitch colored metal roof on both classroom wings. Composed of recycled material, the metal roof is highly reflective, reducing peak energy demand and helping lower the school’s utility bills.
