Scope Of Work
In collaboration with the District’s design team and architect, AMS simultaneously built and installed 2 two-story modular buildings to District specifications, opening both buildings to occupants in less than a year—an unprecedented turnaround for a permanent educational facility of this size. Each project was designed to integrate with its existing campus, using a modern two-story design ideal for an urban site. Harbor City features 12 classrooms plus restrooms, while the larger 135th Street features 15 classrooms, restrooms and a spacious library.
To meet each school’s sustainability goals, AMS used recycled materials and incorporated many high performance elements, including smart lighting, Solatubes and high-efficiency mechanical systems.
It Pays to Go Green
Gardena’s 135th Street Elementary School has been approved for The California Energy Commission’s High Performance Incentive (HPI) Grant through the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS®) and Division for State Architects (DSA). The HPI Grant offers California schools up to $250,000 for incorporating energy-efficient features and systems in their modernization projects.
