Scope Of Work
The Natomas Unified School District’s master plan for Bannon Creek Elementary included expanding and modernizing facilities to accommodate increasing enrollment while phasing out older, outdated portables. American Modular Systems (AMS) worked with the NUSD project team to design and build a pair of two-story permanent modular classroom wings, each housing eight spacious classrooms that can be configured for multiple curriculums. A covered second-story pedestrian walkway connects the two wings, allowing weather-protected circulation between classrooms. Featuring a modern open truss design with fresh air openings, the custom walkway was designed specifically for the Bannon Creek project and erected onsite. Exterior pop-outs add architectural relief to the façade, giving the building unique character that ties into the established campus.
The contemporary interior corridor design is airy, light and bright, with large custom windows and upgraded LED lighting on both levels. Two oversize 4’x4’ skylights are installed in all upper classrooms, along with a series of skylights that illuminate the top-floor. High efficiency mechanical systems are roof-mounted to reduce interior noise, working with sound-buffering insulation between walls and floors to keep classrooms and common areas library-quiet. Interior upgrades were chosen for functionality, durability and style. Modular cabinetry provides storage for students’ Chromebook carts, full-length markerboards are recessed to fit flush to the walls and wear-resistant flooring and wall coverings hold up to daily use, providing long-lasting value—a key objective for the District.
