Scope Of Work
Taylor Tower is a 13-story residence hall on the campus of The Ohio State University Campus. This dormitory serves as the residence hall for students within several programs, including Honors, Business Honors and Allies for Diversity. The building was originally constructed in 1965 and 1966; TP Mechanical was hired as the Lead HVAC Contractor and for Fan Coil Replacement.
Located on the north side of campus, Taylor Tower features a weight room, wireless internet, cable TV, kitchen facilities, study area and a bike room. The entire building is air conditioned. The 576 students reside in a variety of room types, including double, triple, or quad resident rooms.
To meet a demanding 90-day construction schedule, TP Mechanical utilized its fabrication facility to prefabricate mechanical systems and their connections to the existing riser, control valves and balance valves. While the ISO-certified fabrication shop completed the materials for installation, the field team removed the existing materials to ensure the project stayed on schedule, including 458 fan coil units, four air handler units and one make-up air unit.
Once the prefabricated material was delivered to the site, the team was ready to begin installation. Completing these units completed off-site helped minimize crew and waste on the job site. It also helped to shorten the construction schedule and finish the project within the 90-day commitment.
